As a Test Technician at our voltage regulator manufacturing facility in Eden, NC, you'll perform in-process and final electrical testing and inspection of voltage regulators, control boxes, and accessories, in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, applicable standards, customer requirements, and internal procedures.
This is a hands-on position in a high-voltage test environment. You'll be the person who verifies, approves, and certifies product quality through documented test results.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Testing
• Perform tests and inspections on voltage regulators, control boxes, circuits, and measuring devices according to technical specifications, following procedures and standards for safe and quality execution.
• Check winding polarity using a polarity tester to confirm coil assembly conditions.
• Measure winding resistance of regulators, tap changers, and accessories using a DC source or micro-ohmmeter.
• Inspect tap changer assembly and verify proper operation under no-load conditions.
• Perform impedance tests on regulator windings by applying AC voltage.
• Perform current imbalance tests on regulators using an AC source.
• Perform impulse distribution tests on regulators using an impulse generator and oscilloscope.
• Prepare and perform applied voltage (hi-pot) tests on cores, tap changers, regulators, accessories, and control boxes to verify insulation integrity.
Controls & Functional Testing
• Perform functional tests on single-phase voltage regulators equipped with TVC, TBR1000, or Beckwith controls, verifying that relays and accessories perform their programmed functions.
• Configure voltage regulator controls and temperature monitors to ensure proper interface with the manufactured product.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturing drawings of control boxes for functional testing.
• Verify component and accessory connections through continuity tests using a multimeter or continuity tester.
• Energize electromechanical and electronic components for functional testing.
Quality Documentation & Analysis
• Analyze test results against design data, technical specifications, and acceptance criteria.
• Prepare and verify test data sheets and test reports for in-process and final testing.
• Complete and sign checklists and inspection records, documenting the approval of inspected products.
• Record non-conformities in the company’s quality system and support the corresponding corrective and preventive actions.
• Test and inspect equipment returned by customers to identify root cause and propose corrective and preventive actions.
• Collect statistical data and prepare monthly reports on inspected products and manufacturing deviations.
• Prepare and review Work Instructions for the test area in line with customer specifications and quality, safety, and environmental requirements.
• Collect raw material samples during manufacturing as required.
Test Area & Plant Support
• Maintain test equipment, tools, and instruments in good working condition, and request repair or calibration as needed.
• Train and support new team members in testing and inspection activities.
• Participate in scheduled team meetings.
• Follow and reinforce all EHS/OSHA requirements, including high-voltage test area safety, lockout/tagout, and PPE use.
• Comply with Integrated Management System requirements, including waste management, environmental aspects and impacts, and hazard and risk controls applicable to the role.
Requisitos técnicos
Qualifications & Experience
• High school diploma or GED.
• Technical certificate or associate degree in electrical or electronics technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in electrical testing, inspection, or quality control in an industrial setting.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
• Working knowledge of electrical measuring instruments (multimeter, micro-ohmmeter, insulation tester).
• Basic computer skills (ERP, email, spreadsheets, report preparation).
• Ability and willingness to be trained and qualified to work in high-voltage test areas.
Perfil comportamental
Preferred Skills
• Experience testing transformers, voltage regulators, or other high-voltage equipment.
• Familiarity with IEEE C57 standards.
• Experience configuring voltage regulator controls or protection relays.
• Knowledge of root cause analysis and corrective action tools.
• Prior forklift, overhead crane, and/or rigging training or certification preferred.
• Spanish or Portuguese as a second language.
• Experience in a plant start-up environment.
• Willingness and ability to cross-train and support other manufacturing activities as business needs require.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs (23 kg), with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to safely work around energized test equipment, forklifts, overhead cranes, suspended loads, and industrial equipment.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to climb stairs, ladders, or platforms as required.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull.
• Ability to perform repetitive movements when required.
• Ability to use appropriate PPE.
